Here at Riverside Pain Physicians, we see a lot of people come through our office with back and neck pain. We have helped hundreds of patients and have seen a wide range of causes for the pain, numbness, stiffness, weakness, and discomfort that comes from spinal injuries. Here are some of the most common ways that the spine can become injured:
Slip and Falls– slipping in the shower, tripping over the dog, sliding on ice, tripping on the hallway rug, and sliding on waxed floors are just some examples of how slip and fall accidents can occur. They can happen at any time and often without warning and the spine is often hurt in some way as a result of this kind of fall.
Accidents– auto accidents happen every single day and injuries to the head, neck, and back are among the most commonly reported injuries following an automobile accident. Whiplash occurs in most wrecks and, even if the pain doesn’t affect you at first, there is always a chance there could be problems down the road.
Sports– it is fun to play sports and they help us stay active and healthy but some sports have a higher instance of spinal injuries than others. Contact sports such as football, soccer, and hockey have the highest occurrence but other sports can lead to spinal injuries- car races, wrestling, and baseball for example.
Workplace– the place you work and the type of work you do can hurt your neck and back too. If you are doing a lot of lifting, bending, twisting, or stooping you can stress out your back and neck quite easily. Sitting all day at a computer or standing at cash register or warehouse machine all day can also hurt your spine.
Lifting and Bending– we all know you need to be careful with your back when lifting or bending with heavy items and it is because you can do major damage, quite easily, if you are not careful. This is why many businesses have specific training that targets this key safety step.
Diseases– spinal damage can also occur as a result of disease such as spinal degeneration, osteoarthritis, and cancer among many others. This is a more complex case to treat as the underlying disease is often chronic or incurable itself or causes lasting damage that has to be dealt with through the pain management treatment.
Whatever the cause of your pain, when you are looking for spine pain treatment in Jacksonville and the surrounding areas, come see how Riverside Pain Physicians can help!
